The
Corbis high-security underground Film Preservation Facility in western
Pennsylvania. Pictured are (L to R) Ann Hartman, Manager of Library

Library Associates. With environmental conditions designed to preserve
the collection for thousands of years, the new facility will operate
at minus 4 degrees F (minus 20 degrees C) and 35% RH. Corbis is
the home to 11 million images from the Bettmann Archive, formerly
located on lower Broadway in New York City. Over a quarter of a
million images have already been digitized and are available on-line
at www.corbis.com.
The preservation facility includes a well-equipped scanning lab
with high-speed data links for delivery of image files to Corbis
clients worldwide. Corbis is a private corporation owned by Bill
